Taking on Utility Companies to Lower your Bills
Upstate New Yorkers pay some of the highest utility bills in the country, and greedy corporations are trying to charge even more – all while service deteriorates and their foreign parent companies post record profits. It’s robbery. Josh is fighting them every step of the way, to hold the utility monopolies accountable and lower your bills.
Saving You Money
The very first bill Josh introduced in Congress will help families save up to $400 a year by making energy-saving home upgrades that cut utility bills. Josh’s Weatherization Enhancement and Readiness Act is a straightforward way to keep heat in, bills down, and more money in your wallet.
Keeping the Lights Local
Foreign-owned utility companies like NYSEG & Central Hudson want us to pay more while they rake in record profits and send millions overseas. Josh introduced the Keep the Lights Local Act to ban foreign ownership of utilities, because that money should stay in our community, not line the pockets of foreign executives.
Opposing Rate Hikes
Utility bills are an emergency, and Josh is treating them that way. He opened an investigation into the billing practices of Upstate utility companies, and when NYSEG and Central Hudson tried to raise rates again, he took them to court — the first time a member of Congress has ever stepped into a rate case to stop a utility from hiking prices. He’s using every tool he has to lower costs.
